64 teams, comprised of 18 high/middle school and 46 college/university teams, were selected to participate in the NASA Student Launch Initiative (SLI) program for 2020. The teams will work for 8 months designing, building and flying rockets to meet very specific design parameters. The teams must design a scientific payload that will ride in a rocket to a height of 4000-5500ft. Along the way, the teams must complete written design reviews and oral presentations following the engineering process required by NASA of all suppliers. In April 2020, the teams will travel to Huntsville, AL to launch their rockets.
The 2020 NASA SLI full scale rocket was designed to have a transition right before the fin can to reduce drag. The rocket will go from 4in to 2.2in for the fin can and motor. The motor will be a CTI K660 which should get the rocket to just over 5000ft!

After the top 102 teams were announced, the Spring Grove team held practice launches, built an additional rocket, painted their rockets, was featured in a local newspaper and in general was prepping for Nationals. On Monday, the week before Nationals, this happened. Turn up your volume to hear the altimeter beep out 856 ft, the exact height wanted for the launch at the finals. The team was ready!
