Glow in the Dark rocket parts and on-board video of Darwin's rocket.

We are currently 3D printing glow in the dark rocket parts for a night launch in New York in late May.
Great video from an HD camera on the Darwin rocket.  When the rocket spins, it gets crazy to watch, but pause it at times to see the launch field and the size of  the cars in the parking lot over 4000' up.  That is approximately 400 stories up.  If you don't care to watch the whole video, skip to the end and see the landing.  That is cool!

Another great pair of photos from the NASA Student Launch in Huntsville, AL by Jim Wilkerson.  This maybe the last time we see this beautiful rocket, since it is still in a tree in AL.

Great photos from the launch in Huntsville by NAR volunteer photographer Jim Wilkerson.  The Smokey Sam propellant is always interesting to see frozen in time.  Tesla tomorrow.

Banquet and closing ceremony

Launch week culminates in a banquet of all university and high school teams.  At the banquet we are able to reflect about the year and we receive our completion trophies.  With the amount of work and the level of difficulty, just completing this program is an great accomplishment.  Roughly 14 teams that were accepted into the program did not reach this point and many others were not even accepted into the program.  Congratulations Team Tesla and Team Darwin!

It was a beautiful sunrise when we arrived onto Bragg Farm to set up for launch day.  It was brisk with a stiff wind.  The pictures above show the rockets being checked into the RSO (Range Safety Officer) table and on the pads with other rockets waiting for liftoff!

Motor failure for one university team.

Even though one of our rockets is still in a tree in Alabama, one team had a worse day.  Here is a university rocket that had a failed motor.  I am trying to find out which team's rocket this was.  We are currently headed home and will be back in Pennsylvania today.  What an amazing launch week.

Team Tesla's rocket as it clears the pad in Huntsville.

Team Tesla's rocket clears the pad in Huntsville.  It was a perfectly straight flight.  Unfortunately, the main parachute deployed at apogee and after drifting it landed in an 80ft high tree.  After a couple hours of working with ropes in an Alabama wetland, we were not able to retrieve the rocket and unfortunately do not know how high it actually traveled.

Here is team Darwin's flight as it was coming off the pad today.  They reached a height of just over 4600ft.  They represented our school very well with a perfect flight!  We will be posting videos of our launches and photos from the Launch Week daily, so stop back and enjoy.

Team Tesla update tomorrow.

Launch day!

After 8 long months of writing reports, oral presentations, fundraising, design, construction, practice launches and analysis, launch day has finally arrived.  It will be a beautiful sunny day.  We will try to launch both rockets between 11:30am-1pm eastern time. There are no scheduled time slots, so that is a bit variable.

Here is the link for the live launch today : http://www.ustream.tv/channel/nasa-msfc
