The 2018 Battle of the Rockets team is comprised of students from both Spring Grove Area High School and Dover Area High School.  The team is called York Area Mars Rover Team.  The Dover students are building the payload while thr Spring Grove students are building the delivery vehicle.  This is exactly how it is done in the industry with companies like ULA and Space X building the rockets to lauch payloads built by other companies.

First attempt at pouring the sabot for the payload

12/14/2017

The Mar Rover must be held securely in the rocket so that there is no damage.  In order to accomplish this, the team is pouring a foam sabot around a dummy payload.  The sabot is a foam cylinder that is just the size of the parachute and will fly off the payload after being ejected.  During the first attempt, you can see the payload placed into the cylinder mold and foam bein poured in around it.

The electronics bay that is 24 inches long and close to 12 inches wide is currently under construction.  This is the largest E-bay that we have ever built.  Normally space is an issue for all components and wries, but this time the altimeters look so tiny!
