New team photos

It always seems like someone is absent when it comes time to take a whole team photo.  On Monday, we had our FRR oral presentation and the whole team was together, so it was an excellent opportunity to take a group photo.  Most people also don't realize that we are the Spring Grove Rockets.  When the rocket is your mascot, what better way to show it than to build and launch them.

The oral Flight Readiness Review was conducted yesterday via video conference with NASA reviewers.  Flight data, project updates, rocket specifications and other details were included in the presentation.  A question and answer session followed.  We are clear for launch on April 8, 2017.  Launches will be broadcast live via NASA's Ustream channel.

Team Triton flies to 5233ft!

3/17/2017

Every year, when the SLI team starts to design the full scale rocket, the goal is to get as close to the 1 mile mark as possible.  This past Saturday, the Trident rocket reached a height of 5233ft of its last flight before traveling to Huntsville, AL.  We are very please with this result after 7 successful test flights with our two rockets (Trident and Triton).  On to Huntsville!

The Black Mamba flies again!

3/13/2017

Originally built in 2013/14 for the Spring Grove SLI team, the Black Mamba has flown 13 times since.  At 6" in diameter and roughly 10 feet long the Black Mamba is the second largest in our fleet.  On the pad it is close to 35lbs.  Over those launches, a variety of motors have been flown.  This time it flew on an Aerotech K1499 Warp 9 motor to a height of just over 1200ft.  The one grain 75mm propellant burns out in about .7s.  Beautiful flight!

Throwback Thursday - National Altitude Champions

3/9/2017

At 5291ft, the 2015 SLI team was only 11ft from the target altitude of 5280ft.  That feat was better than any high school or university team.  The payload measured the affect of varying porthole size on the altitude read by the altimeters in the payload.  It was a very proud day for the Rocket Scientists!
