This great footage shows a dizzying, but straight, ascent.  More importantly it shows no fin flutter for our 3D print fin can, even at the top speed of about 550 feet/s.  Some footage of the descent  was removed because it spun faster on the way down.  Go Aquarius!

The Spring Grove NASA SL team successfully flew their rocket, Aquarius, on a CTI K660 motor on Saturday.  The flight was perfectly straight and reached a height of 4253ft which was only 147ft from our target altitude of 4400ft.  The flight data will be submitted as our entry into the altitude award competition.  One more design review and the team successfully complete NASA SL 2021!

Photos of our Virtual Rocket Building Workshop

3/22/2021

In a normal year, we would have a couple hundred elementary and middle school students over to the high school to build rocket kit with our team members.  That would not work this year with COVID protocols in place, so the next best thing is a Virtual Rocket Building Workshop.  Students signed up and received a kit.  They then wet to the page on this website for an instructional video how to build the rocket,  Then they had to submit a construction photo and a completion photo of their rockets.  Here are some of the entries.

Wow!  We did it!  In a year with the COVID pandemic, schools opened and closed, large snowstorms, team members distance learning or quarantined, through it all we successfully completed the large Readiness reviews.  Next we have the final test flight of the rocket with its payload.

Full scale vehicle demonstration flight

As filled and published by the MDRA photographer on the field, this is a great video of the full scale flight.  The rocket featured a ballute instead of a parachute as a drogue and it worked very well.

3-6 graders were offered the chance to get a rocket kit to build for our 2021 Virtual Rocket Building workshop.  Students were provided with a link to a video tutorial produced by NASA SL team members and the kit.  Builders were asked to submit a photo building and a completion photo.  Great job Rocket Scientists!
